UPDATE: Official: Russia may prolong food import ban on G7 statements
(Adds details in third, fourth paragraph)
MOSCOW, Jun 10 (PRIME) -- Russia may prolong its ban on imports of food from countries which had imposed sanctions after G7 leaders expressed their commitment to the sanctions term extension, Head of the Presidential Administration Sergei Ivanov said Wednesday.
“As far as we know, a G7 summit has just taken place and it prolonged the term of sanctions against Russia. This is why it is only logical to assume that Russia will prolong its countersanctions as well,” Ivanov said.
Lifting of the ban is “extremely unlikely,” he said. The imports ban is good for local farmers, he said.
Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev said that Russia will keep the trade restrictions if the E.U. signs prolongation of sanctions.
